 Mario's POV
A hero's job is to protect the people they care about. Aside from being a plumber, my job is to protect the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and the citizens in the kingdom from any villain who threatens to attack the kingdom. I have protected and saved different kingdoms as well, such as Beanbean Kingdom and Pi'illo Island. I have even saved the entire galaxy from Bowser twice. A hero is not always invincible though, especially the moment when the hero loses the people they care about the most. At the beginning of my hero career, I have never thought about the possibilities that Bowser, or any villain I've encountered, count hurt or kill the people who mean everything to me. As my brother, Luigi, and I encountered a few close calls with death, I realized that no one can avoid death. I started to become very cautious, which is why I ordered my brother to stay home while I defeat Bowser and save Peach (again), like I do every Thursday. While Luigi didn't look entirely happy when I first told him to stay home, I thought that he was okay with my decision. I never took account on how my brother actually felt about staying home and watching the house.

 Until today.

The day is February 9th, marking mine and Princess Peach's four year anniversary of confessing our feelings towards each other. Normally, I would take her out to a lovely restaurant with wonderful food, but I wanted today to be very special to us. I first took Peach out for a walk in the early morning and we ate lunch together at a fancy restaurant in the Mushroom Kingdom in the early afternoon. After lunch, we decided to end the day together by relaxing together in the castle's courtyard, which is what we're doing right now. Here, we wouldn't have to worry about anything. No responsibilities, no citizens to bother us, and definitely no villains to ruin this perfect day. It was just me, Peach, nature, and relaxation occupying this courtyard.

"Thank you for this wonderful day Mario," Peach beamed. "It has been really nice spending the entire day without having to worry about Bowser or the reporters taking pictures of us."

"You know I would do anything for you," I replied. I gently took Peach's hand and kissed, causing her to blush and giggle. "I love you and I want to make you happy, my dear princess."

"And I love you as well, my hero," Peach said.

She gave me a kiss on the nose, which made me blush. We probably would've had a little make-out session right then and there, if Toad hadn't run into the courtyard like a madman.

"M-Mario!" Toad screamed. Peach and I could tell that he must've ran for a while, because he was sweating and panting. It was as if he ran a marathon and ran to the castle after he finished the race. I was honestly annoyed that he interrupted our special time together, but I couldn't be too mad at the guy. He probably forgot that Peach and I were spending quality time together.

"Unless the kingdom is in danger, we told you not to bother us," I said while sighing. Did Bowser really have to ruin this perfect day by taking over the Mushroom Kingdom? Doesn't he understand that Peach hates him?

 "I-It's not B-Bowser this t-time!" Toad explained with a scared tone. "I-It's L-Luigi! Some m-mysterious guy came to the h-house and a-attacked him! H-He's badly injured M-Mario!"

Suddenly, my heart stopped and I felt like my world was drastically collapsing. This had to be a cruel joke, but the more I looked at Toad, the more I saw that this wasn't a joke. Something happened to my baby brother and I wasn't there to protect him.

"I need to go," I stated. I looked at Peach, but I could see that she understood. While she knew I would do anything for her, she also knew that my brother was the most important thing to me. My brother means everything to me and if something happened to him while I was gone, I would never forgive myself.

"Go to him," Peach said with a reassuring tone. "He needs you, Mario."

I nodded and thanked her before running out of the courtyard, my mind focused on making sure Luigi is still alive. Before I left, I heard Peach yell one thing to me.

 "Be careful Mario!"

While Mario was running to his house, hundreds of questions were swarming in his mind. Is Luigi unconscious? Who was the mysterious guy? Why did he randomly attack the house and hurt Luigi?

 Is Luigi still alive?

All of the questions kept running through Mario's mind, making him run even faster to the house. Even when his chest started to hurt from all the running, Mario didn't stop to take a breath. His number one priority right now was Luigi's safety.

"Hang on, Luigi," Mario thought to himself multiple times. "Big brother's coming to save you. Just please hold on a little longer baby bro."

In about ten minutes, Mario could see his house in the distance. He ran even faster, wanting nothing more than to make sure that Luigi is okay. Even when he slammed the front door opened, he didn't notice that it was unlocked, even though he locked it when he left to visit Peach.

"LUIGI!" Mario screamed while slamming the door wide open.

Mario quickly ran to the living room and was surprised at the condition the living room was in. It looked exactly like how it was this morning: perfectly clean. Did the villain even tried to destroy the house, or was the villain's only goal was to find Luigi and hurt him?

It didn't matter. All Mario knew was that Luigi was badly injured and he needed to find his little brother before-

 "Mario?"
Whoo, first chapter of Mario's Weakness is done! :w00t:

Unlike The Chosen One, the plot of this story will almost be the same. I might change a few small things, but other than the improved writing, this story will mostly stay the same.

I chose February 9th as the date because that was the American release date of Super Mario Bros 3. I would've done the American release date of Super Mario Bros, but I really doubt Mario and Peach would confess their feelings towards each other the first moment they met. Love takes time, even if it's in a video game world where the video game characters don't understand the concept of love. Sonic Shrug Emote

Ignore my rambling about video game love and enjoy the first rewrite chapter of Mario's Weakness! :) More will come in the future.

You get a cookie if you can figure out who's the mysterious person that spoke in the last line. :cookie:
